As part of the celebration for the T 50th anniversary of the Ensemble Jacques Moderne, founded by the musicologist Jean-Pierre Ouvrard, the baroque choir of the Tours University, directed by Isabelle Cormerais, along with instrumental students from the Conservatoire of Tours and the soloists of the Ensemble Jacques Moderne, will gather for a concert conducted by Joël Suhubiette. Together, they will present a program centered around the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Together with Isabelle Cormerais, who sang for many years within the Ensemble, Joël Suhubiette offers a program focused on Bach, aimed at providing a living and dynamic transmission of baroque repertoires. The young musicians, guided by their teachers and professional artists, explore major and complex works while benefiting from an immersion in the historical interpretation of these pieces.

The centerpiece of the program will be Bach's Cantata BWV 131 Aus der Tiefen, the poignant De Profundis by Bach, where the choir plays a central role, allowing the singers to experience the intensity of baroque sacred music. This work is strongly influenced by Bach’s mentors, such as Dietrich Buxtehude, whose jubilant cantata Der Herr ist mit mir will also be heard, itself influenced by Italian styles. Joël Suhubiette highlights this Italian connection with an interpretation of the Beatus vir by Pier Paolo Bencini, a contemporary of Bach and choirmaster at St. Peter’s in Rome.

The vocal and instrumental ensemble thus brings together professionals and students to share a unique artistic experience in service of major works from European Baroque music.
